Calling All Non-Racers!
For this years CXMAS I've created a list in the right hand column entitled "Called Out Races Who Better Show Up." Know somebody who tends to retain a little too much sand and makes up excuses for why they can't do things? Or just someone who thinks there too good for a non-race where there is no money on the line. Want them to be there this year? Put their name(s) in a comment to this post and I'll add them to the list. Feel free to add any insults or questions of masculinity in the comment.
2009 Edition- All you need to know
WHAT:
CXMAS is the final race of the season in the Team Seagal Non-race series. CXMAS is a mix of cyclocross race and gravel grinder. CXMAS covers gravel roads, double track, old degraded roads, grass paths, and some freshly blazed paths. There is no true mountain bike singletrack on the CXMAS course.
The 2009 edition is 32 miles long and covers several loops that head out from the main start/finish area. Expected finish times range from 2 hours to 3 hours+. Here is a map of the approximate non-race course. If you choose to preride it don't count on this map being exact. Some sections of course will not be rideable until the day of the non-race.
WHEN:
NOON, Sunday December 20, 2009. Sign-ins will begin at 11:30.
WHERE:
Start/Finish at the Mound Parking lot off of Hwy 94 in Weldon Springs, MO.

NON-RACES....????
For those of you not familiar non-races are a series of rides that Team Seagal organizes. They are only as competitive as you want them to be. We guarantee non-races to be fun (at least for us). There is no entry fee and there may or may not be prizes, but stick around at the end for refreshments from our sponsors and us. NON-RACES ARE FREE!
MORE STUFF TO KNOW:
There will be no support provided by us or anyone else along the route, so be prepared for whatever you might encounter along the way. You get what you pay for.
On bike choice, mountain bikes and cyclocross bikes are a great choice for the course, but the cross bike is the better bet. Mountain bikes will have an edge in some spots, but the cross bike will be faster. For those on cross bikes keep your pressure up and don't run your fanciest wheels. Some of the sections of course are a little rough, and it will SUCK to change a flat if its 10 degrees out again this year.
This year non-racers are highly encouraged to give $5 when they sign in. There is no entry fee, but all money collected goes to GORC. The only requirement is that one member of the GORC board must finish CXMAS 2009 to receive the money. Now you might ask "Gino, why are we giving money to a mountain bike trailbuilding group? This is a cross race." I have two responses. One, shut-up. Two, we're Team Seagal and we do what we want. If you choose not to donate when signing in, feel free to hold your wrist out.
